March Family Activity Part I

On Maundy Thursday, March 28, we watched "Jesus Christ Superstar" together. We have all seen the movie. I have seen it more times than I can count. It is my very favorite musical. We haven't watched it together for a long time, and Alaric was probably too young to remember it.

I always have a difficult time not singing along with the movie, but I restrained myself. Everyone watched quietly. I remember seeing this in the movie theater when it first came out. I was mesmerized. I have seen it live 5 times. Twice were high school performances and three times at the Orpheum. The highlight was seeing it when Tim Neely played Jesus and Carl Anderson played Judas. Neely's voice wasn't at its best, but the chemistry between him and Anderson was still there.

I recommend this movie to anyone. It doesn't follow the gospels exactly, but it is a moving story with outstanding music. It was shot on location in Israel and other areas in the Middle East. There is a mix of modern with ancient. The clothing and styles of the 70s set the modern time period. The cast is excellent. I will never get tired of watching this movie.
